I’m very pleased to now be involved with Virtual Authors UK. This is a relatively new venture set up by children’s author Jonathon Emmet and inspired by a US ‘Authors Who Skype’ page.
It provides free 20 minute Skype chats with schools where the students have read the authors’ work or are interested in doing so.
It’s an excellent way for authors like me to reach out to students who may be too far away otherwise, and for students to be engaged with all sorts of authors.
Although it provides the students with the opportunity to ask the author questions about their work, their writing process or specific questions about the book, it doesn’t take anything away from a ‘proper’ author school visit.
