Writing Friends with Kerry Drewery and Rebecca Mascull
Cleethorpes Library
Writing can be a lonely business and every writer needs another writer friend; through the ups and downs of rejections from readers, competitions, agents and publishers, to the balancing act of family life, earning money and trying to write the next novel.
Kerry and Rebecca met at Grimsby College a decade ago and have been friends ever since, sharing the trials and tribulations of their developing writing careers.
Now both published authors, this event will see Kerry and Rebecca read extracts from their work, answer questions from the audience and discuss the writing process, the road to publication and the support they offer each other as fellow writers.
Kerry’s first novel A Brighter Fear, about a young Iraqi girl trying to survive through the war, was published by HarperCollins (2012), and was shortlisted for the Leeds Book Awards. Her follow-up, A Dream of Lights (2013), is the story of a teenager trying to survive the harsh reality of life in North Korea.
Rebecca’s first novel, The Visitors, is being published in January 2014 by Hodder & Stoughton. It is about a deaf-blind girl in late Victorian England, her friendship with her teacher and the mysterious Visitors. It has been described as ‘a heart-breaking love story and a compelling ghost story’.
